Jennifer Peedom is a BAFTA- and Emmy-nominated director, writer and producer, and the director of Tenzing, an Apple Original Film starring Genden Phuntsok, Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe and Caitríona Balfe, written by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Luke Davies (Lion, Beautiful Boy) and produced by See-Saw Films. Tenzing, Jen's first narrative feature, tells the story of Tenzing Norgay and the first ascent of Everest. It opens in theatres October 9 and on Apple TV+ October 16, 2026.
Jen's path to Tenzing began with Sherpa, her breakthrough feature documentary which became one of Australia’s most successful theatrical documentaries of all time. It premiered at Telluride, Toronto and BFI London, where it won the Grierson Award for Best Documentary, and earned a BAFTA nomination in 2016.
She followed it with Mountain, made in collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, which launched with a sell-out national concert tour before screening at San Sebastián, London and Busan. Mountain grossed more than A$2 million at the Australian box office and screened theatrically in 26 countries. River, her second collaboration with the ACO, premiered at Telluride in 2021 and was released theatrically in Australia, the UK and the US, selling to over 20 territories.
Her other directing credits include Miracle on Everest, Living the End and Solo, which won the AFI Award for Best Documentary, the Australian Directors Guild Award and the Film Critics Circle Award.
Through her production company Stranger Than Fiction Films, Jen is also an Emmy-nominated producer and executive producer, with credits including David Stratton's Stories of Australian Cinema, Martha: A Picture Story, Harley & Katya, the Sundance-selected SILENCED, and the IMAX features Mountain Quest, The Secret World of Fungi, Butterflies and Caves.
